Annual Shabang

We will be having this annually around the holiday season every year to try and get everyone together once in awhile.

Big Shabang 2014

We have gamed with many people since we started playing. Quite a few
of them have now gone their own way and are unable to make it to game
with us anymore. We need to get together once in awhile with everyone,
so we can catch up and play a no strings attached game. As we know The
Big Shabang will be a little earlier in the season since when we
started it at Christmas time, everyone was home from college on winter
break and this worked well for us. Now having it around Christmas
makes it a lot harder since people get so busy with their families. I
hope this lets more people come this year Staying with what everyone
was familiar with when we all play together, I am still going to run
Pathfinder which is just an updated D&D 3.x there is no real big
change to the rules just balanced classes a bit and made combat
maneuvers easier. This is what we have switched to playing since it's
the only supported 3.x system these days and is pretty good. Jon has
been running this years game, Curse of the Crimson throne. Breaking
tradition i decided to not go with something we have been playing
through out the year, but it is combining two things that I have
thought about this fall. Other than pathfinder or D&D 3.x you can
create anything that you want as long as its not third party, although
most will prob be accepted since it's a one shot and meant to be fun.
Remember to show up and bring a friend who has played with us for a no
strings attached game.

The powers of the Fey have been revealed as coming from processing
Blood Sand. It is from the body of a fallen God. Dwarf and Mankind
have joined forces to acquire some of this power for their own
Neither group has the power on their own to mine, process, and protect
the blood sand. A new mine is being opened up, out in the Fey Wyld
Frontier, where wanderers have explored and have reported finding a
mound formed from the body of one of the fallen gods. It is hoped
that body was preserved in the right conditions to produce Blood Sand.

I have lost contact with a few, and emails have changed over time.

  • the guys were Under attack with a group of adventurers who camp upon their camp. Lucky for them all adventurers underestimate Goblins and they were easily over come. They then had to represent the tribe in the centennial goblin moot, (or at least that is what they were told by Old Nana Grey Tongue even those the older goblins in the tribe can remember the last moot). They were able to navigate their way to the moot after a few tries. there were quite a few tribes in attendance this year. The moot opened up with the traditional Beetle Sausage eating contest. every contestant ate themselves sick with the sausages. They the continued with the usual joust from the back of goblin dogs. Third event was bee hive hurling contest. the object was to hit the moving target of two halflings dressed as a horse. Last there was the mud hog wrestling. This was tricky but eventually all contestants were able to subdue their hog. In the end Frost Fur goblins won the moot. this was quickly changed though as they were found to be using illegal ability altering hazle nuts to get the edsge up on the competition. This led to a three was tie with Bran Ban Plan Clan, Lick toads and Ghost Masks. All three tribes picked a champion for eack event to break the tie. The Ban Bran Plan Clan was able to pull off a victory in the end, and were selected moot Champions, but they had to sneak into the Ogre Farm near by. They were to sneak in grab the fireworks from the barn steal the explosives and break out on the Ogre's plow beast. Like usual goblins they were unable to execute this plan well. They alerted the Ogre by making lots of noise. He came out with his pet croc and ended up slaying two of the goblins while they rest eventually were able to get in to the barn to steal explosives and flee on the back of the plow beast.

Last year was the first year that I tied the one shot in with what we had been playing in the past year. I decided to do this again and the game will be nautical based. We have been playing the Skull and Shackles adventure path during our regular sessions. .Our group no matter who played with us seemed to veer toward ships for some reason, so this might stir up a little nostalgia for a few of you. If there is anyone that use to play with us let them know about this, they are welcome to come. I have lost contact with a few, and emails have changed over time.

We have gamed with many people since we started playing. Quite a few of them have now gone their own way and are unable to make it to game with us anymore. We need to get together once in awhile with everyone, so we can catch up and play a no strings attached game. Staying old school we will be going with D&D 3.x. Last year we went for a classic game and played through world 1 of Super Mario Brothers. It would be nice to get a few more of the guys who have disappeared to come, so if you see or talk to them put some pressure on them.

Started out the men were on a locomotive in the middle of a fight. Tyler tried jumping to the coal car to take care of the gunmen back there. On his way across the back of the locomotive he ended up tripping, and with all the weight of his steam armor he took a nose dive onto the tracks. Time seemed to slow for him and he thought, "I never thought I would end up like this, how did this happen?" A short 36 hours ago the men of the Union army had finished up a fight and found a letter on one of the men they killed. It told of a weapon that the south had a super weapon they developed and it was being transported toward the front lines. It was clear that the Union would have to stop this from happening. OF course our intrepid heroes filled out the special team for this mission. They quickly gathered supplies, mounted up and headed up to the front lines and across to one of the few working stretches of rail. On the way they came across a small cabin and barn in the woods. It was occupied by a naked old man and his goats. David who was scouting tried to steal some goats. The old man ran out waving his gun and his wang and screaming "QUIT FORNICATIN WITH MY GOATS", apparently David must have interrupted him while he was changing. David denied that he was doing this, but who is to say he didn't he was on a solo scouting mission. After trading a few shots with the old man, a new gun fire came out of the woods. The old man was not the only one in the woods, there was a sniper in there too that David was unable to locate, so he high tailed it back to the rest of the guys at the tracks.

Eventually the train came roaring down the tracks and it was all they could do to get theirs horses to catch up so they could jump up onto the caboose. Inside there were two old men who were playing checkers and asking for tickets from the guys as they came though. After quite a few arguments and threats everyone paid one way or another and the guys went on through the train. They traveled across the box cars precariously on the roof. After a few close calls everyone made it to the passenger car which seemed to be holding civilians. There was a gun fight though since the train was guarded eventually they fought all the way up to the locomotive, where Tyler met his demise on the tracks. The battle was hard fought but like in our history the Union won out of the Rebels.

We have gamed with many people since we started playing. Quite a few of them have now gone their own way and are unable to make it to game with us anymore. We need to get together once in awhile with everyone, so we can catch up and play a no strings attached game. Sticking with tradition the game will still be D&D 3.x so it's a system that everyone knows and will be comfortable with even if they haven't gamed in awhile. Last year Jorgensen took on the role of DM for me since I was rather over worked at the time. This year I will take it back over and be running the game.

The world was pre-mapped out which made the game go faster. It was a game that many of us had played before. Super Mario Brothers 1. We played through the world all the way to the castle at the end to defeat bowser and still not get the princess like in the real game. There were several deaths along the way but there were extra lives availabe for failed jump checks to clear the gaps.

The Big Shabang 2009

We have gamed with many people since we started playing. Quite a few of them have now gone their own way and are unable to make it to game with us anymore. We decided since most people will be around for Christmas we need to get together bullshit and play a one shot D&D game. Two years running we have done this now, and it has been successful. I hope for the third year we have a good turn out and we get everyone together again. A small change this year though David will be running the game rather htan myself. I will be sticking with D&D 3.x since that is the system most people are familiar with and I want to make this easy for everyone involved to just show up and play. All the details are not here yet, but we do have the time and date so you can plan ahead to keep it open. We are starting later in the day this year then usual. This is because Swany and I have a total of three weeks of vacations planned right around Christmas so it doesn't leave a lot of time available to get together. For those of you that are going to come from out of town we will be able to find places for you to stay no worries there if you don't wanna drive home that night (next morning). Bring some cash for supper as usual, I think we might make something this year for food rather than ordering out. Feel free to bring a dish or beverage to pass if you like. Maybe if we are lucky David will bring us some of his hot apple cider again this year. Look for another email filling any missing information, See you all there, it will be good to game with you again.

Well I have to say this is the first time that I can say the players lost. Rather than rescuing the villagers that were being abducted they took off cross country to try and get help, rather than get local assistance in their investigations. 19 days after the abductions were started they crew finally returned to find that all the hamlets and the lord of the fiefdom were gone also. the assistance they they came back with was a dwarf who had some idea of the underdark and possible entrances into the upperdark. The only issue here was that he knew the area where he grew up not just and random area into the upperdark. This was the first time that the players were able to use the D&D time machine to go back to the fateful moment where they went the wrong direction since the trail was cold and all allies had been abducted.

Our intrepid adventurers were living in a fortified manor that Lord Abelford had given them for previous services. Lord Abelford came to our heroes the morning after a it was discovered that the inhabitants of a hamlet had disappeared without a trace. After investigating the village a dart of sleeping poison was found stuck in a wall behind a curtain. With this information and the quality of abduction which left no traces, they decided that it was drow who had captured and taken the inhabitants. They were able to find a woodsman who was just barely able to locate a trail up into the mountains and led our heroes to a cave system where the captured citizens and their livestock were being held. After a series of battles they were able to free the prisoners and lead them home.

We played out our one shot that Matt ran consitsting of a dragon that started having its troll minions raid a mountain community for sheep that they were taking back through a portal to its lair for food. They eventually track down the portal and went through to invade the dragon's lair. They eventually(though barely) slayed the dragon and made away with all of the loot.
